      Hi Aafu!

I don’t exactly build things – I am a chemical engineer, which means I can design and manage big processes, like power plants, food manufacturing plants, oil and gas production, or medicine manufacture. Chemical engineers ensure that these process can produce things efficiently and safely.

I think one of the favourite things I worked on was a biogas plant. I designed a plant that took the gas from rotting waste at a sewage treatment plant, cleaned it up and made it suitable for use as natural gas (like the gas you burn on a cooker or boiler at home). It’s a cool idea, taking waste and turning it into something useful. Solving two problems at once!

My most favourite project was working on the 2012 Olympics project.
It was fantastic to be behind the scenes and be part of a great team.

I don’t do much actual building.
When I was 12 I built a radio from scratch – I was pretty proud of that. I’d found the instructions in some old book and bought all the bits at the local electrical shop. But it only ever picked up foreign language radio stations!
In terms of stuff I’ve worked on since becoming an engineer, one of the things I most enjoyed was being part of a team that wrote a report for the government about making buildings zero carbon.
That’s the sort of thing I’d like to do more of.

      Hi Aafu 🙂

I probably have two! One of my favourite things to work on was the Doha Metro in Qatar – it’s going to be their own version of our London Underground. It’s amazing to work on massive projects like that – I was designing huge holes in the ground that were over 8 double decker buses high!!! My other favourite thing to work on was my first ever project when I did a summer placement at University. I was involved in the building of a motorway bridge on the M1 to replace an old bridge that couldn’t carry enough traffic anymore. Part of why it’s my favourite is probably because it was my first project but it’s awesome to be able to drive past it and say ‘I was involved in building that!’
